Progression in Shogun’s Reign is a blend of economic loops, role identity, and life-cycle storytelling. You leave a mostly solo Hub, teleport into the Province with almost no Ryō, work a living, claim space, and eventually decide whether your OC seeks quiet fulfillment or the dangerous prestige of Shogun. Players describe ladders through farmer / artisan / merchant / retainer / warrior / noble toward that seat. Exact appointment rules, quotas, and cooldowns are not fully documented publicly; this guide maps the journey players actually talk about without inventing a fake skill tree.

Start with Getting Started if you are brand new. Use the role checklist to track milestones, and compare early jobs on the roles tier list.

The three currencies of progression

1. Ryō — funds stock, fashion, and housing claims.
2. Social readability — bio, tags, outfits, species, and manners from customization.
3. Narrative position — which life path you inhabit when political moments appear.

Ignore any one pillar and the climb feels stuck: rich but friendless, stylish but broke, or titled in bio only.

Early rung: survive the Province

Milestone pack for week-one energy:

• Complete Hub setup and earn Welcome to the Province energy by actually living there.
• Run Farmer until money anxiety drops.
• Sample Merchant once you can buy turnips/cabbage style stock without going bankrupt.
• Try Attendant, Isha, or Performer for etiquette XP and possible Instrument Master pursuits.
• Scout houses without impulse-buying every roof.

This rung is intentionally humble. Shogun cosplay on day one mostly signals inexperience.

Mid rung: artisan, merchant depth, housing

Artisan appears in community path lists as a craft-leaning middle class fantasy between raw farming and status service. Public craft recipes are incomplete—roleplay the diligence even when systems are light.

Merchant depth means repeatable stall profit, not a single lucky restock. Bank toward a claim; follow housing discipline.

Service mastery means regular Attendant shifts, trusted Isha scenes, or Performer sets people show up for. These do not always top Ryō charts, but they unlock soft power.

Upper rung: retainer, warrior, noble

These rungs are more social and political:

• Retainer — loyalty stories, household duty, being useful to higher-status OCs without owning the throne.
• Warrior — conflict, protection, aftermath that Isha players stitch together; keep violence inside consented Province tone.
• Noble — etiquette, patronage, hosting from a claimed home, funding Merchants or Performers.

Requirements to “unlock” each fantasy are not published as a clean checklist. Earn the look through customization, the purse through work, and the reputation through consistent scenes. The Players hub collects identity pages that support this layer.

Shogun endgames and key badges

Badge north stars:

• Welcome to the Province — you arrived.
• The Shogunate — appointed Shogun.
• Reign’s End — a Shogun revolted / reign broken.
• Ambitionless — finish a life cycle without becoming Shogun.
• Instrument Master — expert perfect song as Performer.

Important framing: Ambitionless is not failure. Many beautiful OCs are farmers, attendants, or merchants who never seek the seat. Conversely, chasing The Shogunate without housing, manners, or allies makes the appointment fantasy hollow even if mechanics someday click.

Because appointment steps are not fully public, prepare generally:

• Maintain surplus Ryō.
• Keep a coherent public identity.
• Participate in Province life instead of AFK grinding only.

• Stay clear of unverified scripts promising instant Shogun.

Attendant/Isha manners → Performer reputation → retainer bonds → optional Shogun intrigue.

Route D — Blade and duty
Farmer fitness → warrior RP → retainer oaths → collision with Shogunate / revolt stories.
